## Overview

Monero is the most used private cryptocurrency in existence and the field's most thoroughly battle-tested design. Ring signatures, stealth addresses and confidential transactions hide sender, receiver and amount on every transaction, with no optional transparent mode to thin the anonymity set. It has a decade of adversarial scrutiny behind it, a research lab that publishes openly, and a fair launch with no premine. Its regulatory position is contested, and several exchanges have delisted it.
